Prologue

“General Falco! General Falco!” Harrison yelled as he ran down the hall and into Falco’s office. His heart thudded loudly in his chest.

“Where’s the fire Harrison? Men like you don’t just come barging into my-” General Falco started before Harrison cut him off.

“Sir, it’s happened. All around the world, encased in black stone. We need to call the Prometheans back home.” Harrison said, out of breath.

General Falco sat on the edge of his desk, his mind whirring. Finally he looked up at Harrison with a stern expression. “Make the calls Harrison. I’ll tell the staff to get the housing ready.” He saluted as Harrison stood at attention. Harrison ran back out of the room to make his calls. Falco pulled on his formal military coat and went out of his office. He walked down the hall and into the main office. He picked up the PA microphone and called out, “All staff please report to the main hall for a mandatory meeting.” Falco repeated himself once more than hung up the mic.

Soon he heard the shuffling of feet moving into the main hall, the center of all life on the base. Falco straightened his medals and shined his shoes as the staff finished filling the hall. He walked into the main hall where he felt hundreds of eyes on him. He moved to the podium with a solemn walk and turned to look at the staff. His dull blue eyes scanned over the faces of his staff. Each was a different race, a different age, different gender, different religion...a true pot of diversity brought together for the sake of the project. General Falco was happy that they were all here. He was saddened by the news he had to share. He cleared his throat and took his pre-made notecards out of his pocket. He knew this day was coming for twenty years now. He still dreaded making this speech as much as the day he wrote the cards. He turned to the staff and began to speak.

“I have called you all here to discuss a matter which we had known was coming for twenty years. You all are recruits for a project here on the base, you all knew that coming in. Project Prometheus, a project dedicated to creating children who would eventually take over for their parents. Twenty three years ago we were approached by messengers from a world we thought didn’t exist. We got to meet these messengers who proved that indeed, they were gods and goddesses. They represented religions around the world that hadn’t been widely practiced in a very long time. Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic, Japanese, Egyptian, and Mayan mythological figures came to us, led by Hermes who of course is the Greek god of messages and travel. They told us that a great evil was coming that was long predicted. They predicted that within twenty-five years they would all be encased in stone and left useless to continue running the world. As a result the world would end. Nothing would control the wind, nothing would control the seas, nothing would control the weather, or grains growing, or seasons. Everything we thought was explained by phenomenon on the Earth was wrong. We have all been so wrong.” Falco bowed his head a moment taking a breath. “Project Prometheus saw to it that there would be someone to take over for these gods and goddesses. We started collecting DNA sample from each of the Gods and Goddesses that wished to be a part of the project. From there we found other immortal creatures, by reference of the gods and goddesses, each creature being from the same origin as the gods and goddesses. We blended their DNA and either found surrogates or some female creatures chose to carry the children themselves. Each woman with child was kept here on the base until the child was born then they were allowed to either put the child up for adoption or keep the child. The children were then observed from a far as they grew up and we watched as their powers developed. Some children, like the Greek Prometheans, were in contact with their divine parents through dreams at night. Others, however, still don’t know what origin they come from.”

Falco continued on, “The reason I’m telling you all this is because we have had some devastating news as of about half an hour ago. The prediction of the gods and goddesses has come true. I got the news earlier that gods and goddesses across the world are now encased in a solid layer of black stone. We don’t know if they are alive or dead within the stone. For now our Titan Project members are keeping the world together while the Prometheans will be trained.” Falco paused as worried looks were exchanged and terrified whispers murmured through the crowd. “I know this is something unbelievable and scary but I want to reassure you. We have called the Prometheans back home. Their training will begin as early as next week. Soon they will be full fledged gods and goddesses in their own right. Soon our world will be safe again. For right now we need to preparing housing and the base for the arrival of the Prometheans. Housing staff, I need those rooms to look impeccable. Trainers, please start preparing the training facilities so that all your equipment will be prepared to work with. Cleaning staff, I want to see this place spick and span. Food and nutrition, I need menus prepared for these kids. Focus on foods specifically helpful to building muscle, health, and the mind. Office staff, I need you to be on the phones starting tonight and getting paperwork together for the guardians to fill out. I need the head of each department to follow me to the meeting room so we can discuss a game plan. To everyone else who I haven’t mentioned, find something to do or I will find something for you.” Falco gave a stern look then nodded to the audience who quickly shifted into gear. Falco headed to the meeting room, followed closely by the heads of the departments. It was going to be a long night.

The prologue to my Prometheans story. The story revolves around India Doe, the daughter of Morpheus the Greek god of dreams. The prologue outlines the major idea behind the story so be sure to read it first.
